Jumbo Technology has filed a lawsuit against Evolution, accusing the company of patent infringement. The legal action marks a significant escalation in the ongoing rivalry between the two tech firms, highlighting Jumbo Technology’s efforts to protect its intellectual property rights. The case centers around patented innovations that Jumbo alleges Evolution has unlawfully incorporated into its products, potentially impacting the competitive landscape of the technology industry

Taiwanese gaming hardware leader Jumbo Technology has launched a patent infringement lawsuit against Evolution, alleging that Evolution’s Lightning series unlawfully incorporates Jumbo’s patented dynamic odds game mechanic.

Jumbo Technology Takes Legal Action Against Evolution

Filed on May 29 in the US District Court for the District of Delaware, Jumbo Technology accuses Evolution of intentionally violating US Patent No. 9,646,459, granted in 2017. This patent covers a unique system that delivers randomized, enhanced odds for popular casino games like roulette, baccarat, and dice. Jumbo asserts that Evolution’s Lightning-branded titles utilize the patented “dynamic raised odds” feature-designed to amplify player engagement by offering occasional boosted payouts while preserving profitability for operators.

Operating as a respected provider in the Asian gaming market since 2000, Jumbo contends its patented technology forms the backbone of several of Evolution’s best-known live casino games, including Lightning Roulette, Red Door Roulette, Lightning Baccarat, and Lightning Dice. These games feature randomized multipliers that increase payout potential on select wagers, directly reflecting Jumbo’s innovation.

Jumbo’s legal team emphasizes that this patented technology transforms static, traditional game formats into more dynamic and unpredictable experiences that increase player session length and overall enjoyment. They argue that such enhancements shift the online gaming landscape away from simple physical casino replicas toward more thrilling, excitement-driven gameplay.

Seeking Damages and Licensing Fees

Through this lawsuit, Jumbo Technology is pursuing damages, additional penalties for intentional infringement, and recovery of legal costs. The complaint highlights examples such as enhanced roulette payouts, where conventional 35:1 odds can be elevated to 42:1 using Jumbo’s patented system. Multipliers embedded in baccarat and sic bo similarly adjust odds tied to specific bets-carefully designed to preserve the house edge.

Jumbo states that it initially approached Evolution in June 2024 to discuss licensing the patented technology under reasonable royalty terms. Despite ongoing communications, Evolution reportedly declined licensing discussions and continued offering the contested Lightning games across several US jurisdictions, including Delaware, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Michigan.

Further allegations include indirect infringement, with Evolution accused of encouraging licensed US casinos and operators to deploy the infringing games. The complaint also references Evolution’s promotion of the Lightning series at industry events like G2E Las Vegas, aimed at boosting US market penetration.

At the time of publication, Evolution has not issued a response to Jumbo Technology’s claims.
