BetBlocker Wins Prestigious Gambling Harm Prevention Award

BetBlocker, a UK-based charity offering free blocking software to help players manage their access to online gambling platforms, has been honored with the Jim Wuelfing Annual Award for Prevention at the 2024 National Council on Problem Gambling Awards (NCPG).

In a LinkedIn announcement, BetBlocker celebrated its success at the awards ceremony held on July 19.

“BetBlocker is absolutely thrilled to announce that on Friday the 19th of July 2024, we received the Jim Wuelfing Annual Award for Prevention from the National Council on Problem Gambling,” the organization shared on social media.

Earlier this month, the NCPG announced the creation of a tribal advisory council to foster more culturally sensitive approaches.

Prestigious Recognition “Deeply Humbling” for BetBlocker

BetBlocker, known for its effective software compatible with iOS, Android, Windows, Apple, Linux, and Fire OS, stated that the award acknowledges their efforts in gambling harm prevention, which aligns with their mission.

“There is no higher award or recognition that our organization could receive,” their social media post continued.

The recognition from one of the industry’s most authoritative bodies is “deeply humbling” for BetBlocker, whose software is used by thousands globally and has been downloaded hundreds of thousands of times.

Pedro Romero, the charity’s Chief of Safer Gambling Partnerships, accepted the award. Romero described the experience of speaking to numerous harm minimization organizations in the USA, who already refer their service users to BetBlocker, as “incredibly humbling.”

“It’s easy to lose sight of just how many people are positively impacted by the support we offer,” Romero added.

BetBlocker Founder: “I’m Over the Moon About This One”

BetBlocker founder and trustee Duncan Garvie expressed his gratitude towards the NCPG and the judging panel, saying, “Everyone at BetBlocker wants to offer our deepest thanks to the NCPG and the judging panel for their consideration. This means a great deal to us indeed.”

Garvie commented on a congratulatory message, “I’m over the moon about this one,” and highlighted the importance of their work being recognized by the NCPG, “one of the most influential voices within the sector.”

The founder spoke on behalf of the entire team, stating they were all “deeply honored” to receive the prize named after a respected trainer and advocate for problem gambling prevention in the US.

The award is the culmination of many years of hard work by BetBlocker, focused on providing effective and free blocking software for anonymous use worldwide.

BetBlocker’s software is unique in offering a Calendaring Feature that allows users to schedule when the block should be activated during periods of vulnerability.

The services are available in six non-English languages, with more to follow, aiding minority communities.

Last month, online gaming and crypto betting company Stake announced a historic safer gambling agreement with BetBlocker, promoting its responsible gaming tools.

Earlier this month, BetBlocker announced it would use Blask’s Artificial Intelligence solutions to enhance its responsible gambling efforts.
